Myanmar evacuates more than 2000 citizens stranded abroad

Yangon—Myanmar has evacuated 2,037 Myanmar citizens stranded in foreign countries.

Due to the temporary suspension of international passenger flights, Myanmar brought back 145 Myanmar citizens from Singapore by the MNA’s relief flight as a fifth batch. They arrived back at Yangon International Airport on 21 May.

In addition, Myanmar evacuated nine Myanmar citizens stranded in Vietnam by the Vietjet Air’s relief flight who brought home Vietnamese citizens stranded in Myanmar. They arrived back at Yangon International Airport on 21 May.

Under the guidance of the Central Committee for Prevention, Control and Treatment of COVID-19 and in cooperation with relevant Myanmar embassies and ministries, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs evacuated 2,037 Myanmar citizens stranded in Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Bangladesh, Singapore, the U.S, UK, Indonesia, Malaysia, UAE, Qatar, Italy, Vietnam and the Philippines.

In order to bring back Myanmar citizens stranded abroad, the State-owned MNA operated Chennai-Yangon schedule on 24 May and Gaya-Yangon schedule on 27 May.

The MNA have evacuated 577 Myanmar citizens from Singapore by relief flights.
