 In order to promote tourism in Shan State, an ancient city Moe Nae, in southern Shan State, has been submitted for the second time to recognize as ancient cultural city to Shan State chief minister but deterioration worsen during in the process.
In 2016, Shan State government has designated four sites in Moe Nae as ancient cultural preservation sites. They are U Thila monastery, Elephant hill, Khar Khaung and Mway Taw. Now, field researches are being made to add Lwyin Lyun monastery and another site to be as cultural preservation sites.
At present, small temples in the city and four big temples were under conservation and most of the sites and temples in the ancient city were destroyed due to weather or man-made disasters according to Sayadaw Badantta Nardida from the Wizariya monastery.
