KITSAPA- Floods along Ann- Maei Highway at mile-post N.22 near Padae Kyaw village caused the road to be destroyed, disrupting transportation.
“Due to torrential rain, a road section was badly damaged yesterday morning. At present, about 100-ft of road had collapsed. We found about 10 passengers’ vehicles on the road of Ann Township. The vehicles had to turn back to the Maei Township. The damaged road is Maei-Kyaukphyu-Taunggup-Ann road section. It isn’t Yangon-Sittwe road,” said Tun Kywe from Kyaukphyu Township.
Currently, torrential rain pours down across the Rakhine State, causing landslides in hilly parts of the Yangon-Sittwe road as well as flooding townships and villages.
“Access between Padae Kyaw village and Hinywet village broke down due to floods occuring in Padae Kyaw dam. All roads are flooded and currently, about 60 vehicles are stuck. It is inconvenient to pass through the road due to strong overflow of water. Dam exceeds more water due to torrential rain,” said Maung Ni from Padae Kyaw village.
In Ann Township, more road sections have been flooded and vehicles rendered immobile due to heavy rain and overflowing waters.
