U Pyoe Min Thein, Chief Minister of Yangon, promised to implement multi use cards for virtual payments for Yangon commuters.
He mentioned his remark at the ceremony launching the 94 bus line and appointing Academy winner Pyay Ti Oo as Brand Ambassador held on March 26.
"If we can make card payment system, control system will get stronger and our people can make cashless payments using cards. We will make cards available for everyone. We will enable card users to make payments for every transportation mode with a single card. We are preparing to make any card available for payment, and for any transportation mode. We are trying to use the latest state-of-the-art technology. We are a little behind, but this is an opportunity to use the latest technology,” he said.
“There are about 5,000 buses transporting up to 2.4 million commuters out of 2.8 million commuters daily,” according to Daw Nilar Kyaw, Regional Minister for Electricity, Industry and Transportation.
Excel KC Myanmar that partnered with Taiwan based Acer ITS, will implement the YBS payment card system. Yangon regional government will consult international organization including JICA and ADB for making Yangon’s transportation mode improvements.
