Ceremony for finishing first phase of Welmer Jetty, the third jetty in Thilawa SEZ, where Cargo ships and container ships can dock was held in Thilawa Industrial Zone on March 24.
The project consists of three phases, and the whole project is expected to be finished in 2022.
Singapore based Wilmer International Limited won tender for the project by Myanmar Port Authority in accordance with the permission of Myanmar Investment Commission.
The jetty — worth $70 million in investments — has a 13 meter depth, is 232 meters long, and will be extended to 390 meters. There are 37 plots that have been appropriated in Thilawa port since 1996. Plot numbers 24, 25 and 26 will be implemented by the Myanmar Port Authority, and the rest will be handed to the private investors.
The jetty will be available for cargo vessels carrying goods such as agricultural products. Additionally, factories and storages facilities are being built near the jetty.
