Clashes broke out after a group from the Arakan Army opened fire on a motorboat carrying army troops and another boat boarded by civilians near Nonebu village upstream of Kaladan River in Paletwa Township on November 8, killing one civilian and wounding three others, according to the state government. “We have yet to get medicine and food in aid,” said volunteer Eik Khin. “The Chin State government hasn’t transferred money so far.” The state government reported that 309 people fled to Shinlatwa village and 281 to Aukbalaing village, while some others fled to other villages.
Eik Khin said Shinlatwa hosted most IDPs.
Residents said news of battles was hard to get since communications were difficult in the township.
A Paletwa resident said: “If anyone wants to donate, there is a committee to facilitate it. The only means of travel is by boats.”
